Two day Level 1 Scientific Locomotion and Hoof Care course
in the beautiful Pyrenees

24 & 25 September 2016

This course, given in association with Pierre ENOFF, owner of EQUILibre®, is aimed not only at the “amateur” horse owners wanting to know more about their horses but also the professional farriers and veterinary surgeons and it is currently the only course with a scientific basis in the physics of locomotion.

It is a two day course, commencing at 09:00 on day 1 and finishing in the afternoon of day 2 (the exact time is dependent upon the question and answer session that marks the end of the course).
Meals and accommodation on days 1 and 2 are included in the cost. Accommodation and evening meal day 0 and breakfast day 1 are available on payment of a supplement.

Day 0: Arrival, meeting of students, evening meal.

Day 1 – Theory

  • The daily life of the horse
  • Elementary locomotion
  • The role of the hoof
  • Hoof hygiene and maintenance

Day 2 – Theory/Practical

  • Review of tools needed for effective trimming (theory)
and evaluation of students’ trimming equipment
  • Trimming – we only use live horses since this is the only way to appreciate and learn about the dynamics of the hoof and how the horse behaves during a trim!
  • Question & Answer session (“debriefing”!)

On the evening of day 1 and during the practical session, a veterinary surgeon will be on hand to help answer any related queries.

Students are requested to bring at least a pair of protective gloves. If feasible, students should also bring their own tools – this is obviously more difficult when travelling by air or public transport and trimming knives and rasps will be available.

Price, including one night accommodation, 2x lunch, 1x evening meal (Saturday) and 1x breakfast (Sunday) 280€
The course commences promptly at 09:00 on day 1. Students are invited to arrive on the Friday evening – the supplement for 1 extra night accommodation and meals is 25€.

A minimum of 6 students is required for the course to go ahead. Sabots Libres reserves the right to cancel or postpone the course in the event of insufficient numbers. In such circumstances, course fees will be refunded.
Places on the course are only guaranteed by payment of the reservation fee of 60% (168€). Full payment must be made no less than 30 days before the first day of the course. Fees are non-refundable with the exception of cancellation or postponement by Sabots Libres.

Porta is situated ±830km from Paris but is very easily accessible (A6, A10, A71, A20, A62, A61, A66, N20) – just the last 90 km is N-route.
The airports of Toulouse-Blagnac and Carcassonne serve the region. A shuttle-bus and a tram service connect Blagnac with the centre of Toulouse and from the central station, Toulouse-Matabiau, there is a service to Porté Puymorens.
A night train runs every night from Paris Austerlitz to Latour de Carol/Enveitg. This train also stops at Porté Puymorens. Paris Nord (terminal for Thalys and Eurostar) and Austerlitz are well served by Metro line 5; the journey takes 15 minutes.
From Porté Puymorens to La Pastorale in Porta is ±20 minutes on foot (all downhill – Porté Puymorens is the highest mainline station in France!). Please give notice if you wish to be collected from the station at Porté Puymorens.

The course will be given in English!
